Still Will Be Heard
Edna St. Vincent Millay’s poetry — lyrical, romantic, direct — helped establish a uniquely American poetic voice. Decades later, critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Liz Queler searched for a new reason to sing at a difficult time in her life. "Edna showed up,” said Liz, “and her timing, much like her words, was perfect.” Liz and her partner Seth Farber began setting the poems to music.
This new music theatre piece features 17 of Millay’s poems set to Liz and Seth’s eclectic blend of folk, rock, jazz, and bluegrass music. The songs, interspersed with spoken words culled from the writings of both women, take us on a journey by turns playful, dark, fierce, and beautiful.
For their work on Still Will Be Heard, Mindy Cooper and Liz Queler were named Finalists for the Women in the Arts and Media Collaboration Award.
Still Will Be Heard was Commissioned by Peak Performances and presented at the Alexander Kasser Theater at Montclair State University
